Calm Relaxing Music
Is there a simple app that provides music to help you relax, sleep and meditate. An extensive collection of relaxing music for just about everything – sleeping, meditation, yoga, working out, and more.
Where the music is instrumental, and it gradually changes tempo so that you can fall asleep easier or calm down after a stressful day.
Has a background video shows an ocean view with clouds passing by – very soothing. There are also voice-over instructions on how to relax, meditate, and sleep better.
You can choose from several different voices for the instructions. You can also write down your thoughts / goals / wishes if you like in their handy little note section of the app. And even comes equipped with a timer, alarm clock, flashlight and a notepad where you can jot down things as you think of them.
Let me introduce you to calm.
What is calm.com?
Calm.com is an app that provides guided meditations, relaxation music, and sleep stories to help you relax and calm down so you can fall asleep faster, improve your health, decrease stress levels or just find a few minutes of peace during the day. The app advertises itself as being able to teach you mindfulness meditation in 3 minutes per day for 7 days straight (for free!), which sounds great but does it really work?
Dealing with stress isn’t easy; in fact most people will admit at least once they’ve panicked over something either small or big. Think about how many times has someone told you not to worry about this or that, and continue on with your life even though it’s eating away inside? If you’ve ever said the words “I’m stressed out”, then this post is definitely for you.
It takes a lot of control over your mind to be able to stop worrying about things that will ultimately have no impact on your life at all, and even though mindfulness meditation may not be for everyone, it’s really worth giving it a try. In fact I found out about Calm.com because a few weeks ago I’ve started my journey towards becoming more mindful not only in daily life but also when writing or reading articles (like this one!).
So is calm good?
Calm Relaxing Music and my experience with it so far has been great; I’ve felt more relaxed after just a few minutes into each session, sleep better thanks to deeper breathing exercises and simply feel less stressed overall. The app also provides a personalized experience for you with your current breathing and heart rate, so it’s easy to tell whether or not you’re doing the exercises right or need to pace yourself better.
I’ve experienced all of the above in my first few days after I started Calm; I was able to take note of how many times do my thoughts wander during each session, breathe slower because of it and simply just relax through a simple exercise that lasts three minutes at a time.
The best part about this is that Calm can be used without internet connection (so no excuses) which means you could literally be anywhere at anytime and still access their content! This has been particularly useful on those hectic work days where my mind would constantly bounce from one task to another, and I simply didn’t have enough time to squeeze it all in.
There are additional features available for Calm Premium (a subscription which is currently $95 a year), such as:
- three meditation timers with different speeds
- an alarm clock with a gentle wakeup sound that starts out soft but gets louder over time, so you can wake up more naturally instead of the usual beep beep beep which never really helps anyway; plus you can fall asleep along with ambient sounds or music with no interruptions!
It’s important to note that even though this review is based on my own experience, everyone perceives things differently so some people might find Calm useless while others will swear by it. For example, I know a few people that absolutely hate meditation and refuse to try it at all! One of them even told me “I’m not meditating and there’s nothing you can say or do that will change my mind” but then again this is just his opinion based on his views.
The more things change the more they stay the same, right?
Calm has a section called Explore where you’ll find different videos meant to improve your overall health in just minutes per day. The techniques covered are related to everything from managing stress levels, improving sleep quality, reducing anxiety over daily life events and even being better able to manage energy levels throughout the day and perform better at work.
All you have to do is select one video from each category and you’ll be on your way towards a healthier lifestyle.
For those that would like to read more about mindfulness meditation, there’s an entire section dedicated to it with tips from experts willing to help you overcome whatever obstacles that block your way. It will take some time but eventually you’ll get there! Not only that but managing your daily stress levels will provide all sorts of health benefits – lower blood pressure, increased happiness and reduced pain among many others.
When Calm was brought up in social media I noticed several people complaining about the price for the premium version (which is currently $95 per year). You can simply decide not to purchase it or look for less expensive alternatives, but if you ask me this is definitely worth every penny. I mean, it’s not like you’re spending that much on coffee so why not put more effort into getting something worthwhile that can help improve your overall health and wellbeing.
There are even some special features for certain situations such as when you feel stressed out or having trouble sleeping at night. The Guided Meditations section has a variety of different talks based on themes from self-confidence to forgiveness and everything in between.
I know the app is new (as of September 2017) but judging by how smooth it runs and how user friendly it seems, I predict Calm will be around for many years to come because there’s really no reason for them to shut down any time soon! They have all sorts of new content lined up including plenty of new features, so up to this point I’ve been very impressed and there’s no reason for me not to continue being a happy calm.com customer!
Calm is the first of its kind
It’s literally everything you need in order to have a good night sleep or simply unwind after a hard day at work. It may take some time but once you get into the habit of using all their resources you’ll feel an instant difference and your level of happiness will increase as well!
I hope you found this review helpful because I’m really excited about sharing what Calm has done for me and hopefully it can help others as well. Be sure to check them out on Facebook or Twitter, if they reach out to you on those channels be sure to thank them for their hard work!
